I am a teacher at two community colleges in Southern Illinois.At one of the colleges, we used the Langan textbook for years to teach our composition classes, Now we no longer use it. I cannot understand why.
Langan is the absolute best textbook for this class. The material is presented in a simple, straightforward manner that is understandable for our students, The book contains many exercises and activities, which most other texts for this class do not. And this presents the opportunity for students to become active learners. Our students need simple, since writing is hard enough to learn, and Langan is the perfect text in that respect. The sample essays have humor as well as information that helps the student.
I am a big proponent of the Langan book and highly recommend it...I have used it for the better part of 20 years.

Rented the textbook and it came in good condition. You can tell it was used by the cover being bent but everything was usable and inside was in good condition. No marks. Price was great ! Shipping was fast and easy to return ship. Will rent again if needed.
The first thing that I read in this book goes against everything I was ever taught in school. Some things in here seem like they weren't necessarily proof read before publishing.
Other than the few hiccups, overall solid book for ENG101 classes, and I would even recommend to high schoolers looking to get ahead.
The college course that used this book only referenced minimal material that was actually required to complete the course. This is often too common for an online course, where most of the material that is assigned is referenced in text outside the associated textbook. Due to the limited amount that this book was even used, I'll put a 5 star for the material that was actually needed to be read.
Nice book and it's basically like the 9th edition plus you can save, ask your instructor if you can use this one in place of the 9th edition first.
This text covers a lot of really good information for anyone who's writing. Definitely a good pick by my school! They explain all of the concepts in depth, and give excellent examples. I like the instructor's edition especially because it has notes in it that the normal text doesn't, and I found those really helpful as the student.
this is an excellant text book and will give you a lot of exposure to various writers.
i had to purchase this for a class and am glad that i did. i'm way advanced as a writer for this to help much, as this is fairly basic writing and with so many years of producing technical writing for the military, it was too basic for me to get much out of.
however the many different authors profiled in text they wrote makes the book worth finding and getting a copy of for your library as i have for mine
I just received my rental, I'm writing a review about it's appearance. I still haven't had a chance to use it since class starts next week.
Now, regarding the appearance, I know I got it for a pretty inexpensive price but that's no reason for me to receive it all bended, pages stained, pages stuck together and a couple of rips. I mean, it's still useable but please people, take care of the rental books, you might not have paid full price for them but there are other students that will be using them as well, and deserve to have a well maintained textbook.
